Dr. Duvall brings to the Fund a unique blend of venture capital investing experience and in-depth technical and operational expertise across a broad range of technical domains.
Dr. Duvall recently left Intel Corporation after 24 years with the company. Most recently, he held joint appointments as the Director of Technology for Intel Capital internationally and the Director of Intel Capital for Australia and New Zealand. In the former role, he was responsible for sourcing new technology opportunities for the company globally and supporting technology-related investments by Intel Capital’s investment teams in approximately 25 countries around the world. Dr. Duvall performed technology and business evaluations of a very large number of companies in Asia, Australasia, Europe and the Americas, covering a wide range of technology disciplines and industry segments, including integrated circuits, materials, energy production and distribution, wireless and optical communication, data storage, manufacturing, and information technology. He helped Intel Capital complete investments in approximately 20 companies and he provided significant support for the companies after the investments were completed, including advice on their technologies, products and strategies. Prior to joining Intel Capital, Dr. Duvall spent 18 years with Intel’s Technology and Manufacturing Group, based in California. Over this period, he led pioneering efforts in the computer-aided design of semiconductor process and device technologies and circuits. In 1999, Intel’s Board of Directors appointed Dr. Duvall an Intel Fellow, the company’s highest technical position, in recognition of his sustained record of technical and strategic leadership at Intel. He was also twice awarded Intel’s highest individual recognition award. In addition to his positions at Intel, Dr. Duvall has held positions on the scientific staffs of Argonne National Laboratory in the USA and CSIRO in Australia. He currently has a position as a Professorial Visiting Research Fellow at the University of New South Wales and is on the advisory boards or management committees of three ARC research centers and two schools of electrical engineering at Australian universities. He has served terms on an ARC Expert Advisory Committee and as the Chair of an IEEE chapter. Dr. Duvall is currently an independent director of two start-up companies and a key advisor to three others. He was formerly an independent director of Altium Ltd. He is currently a member of NICTA’s commercialization advisory board and, since leaving Intel, has been sought out by several Australian venture capital funds for collaborative assistance with deals involving advanced materials and semi-conductor technologies.
